Hello! Welcome to my blog. I created this page 2 years ago on October 23, 2024, and made my first post About Me #001. On this page, you can read about some of the projects I am working on and other interests of mine.

This blog is a good place to improve my writing skills, and I find the free version of Grammarly to be very helpful for spelling and punctuation. As of now, there are 48 blog posts. Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoy my blog.🙂

Doodle Art by Len

Recently, I got interested in creating simple drawings, known as doodle art. Using a small Wacom Intuos drawing tablet, PC desktop computer, and GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP), I created some doodle art for the My Guestbook page on this website.

On the My Guestbook page, a poster can upload an optional profile picture to go with their post. If no profile picture is uploaded one of my doodle art pictures is used instead.

My Canadian Stubby Beer Bottle Website

I just finished redesigning my Canadian stubby beer bottle website at www.stubby.ca.

From the 1960s to the early 1980s all major Canadian brewers used the stubby beer bottle to bottle and distribute their beer in Canada. I collected the bottles from 1976 to about 1983.

In 2002, I registered the www.stubby.ca domain to display my collection of almost 300 Canadian stubby beer bottles, and to get experience in coding and designing websites.

You can visit the website at The Canadian Stubby Beer Bottle.

Going For A Walk

Today I went for a 5-kilometre walk around Blue Mountain Park and Como Lake Middle School in Coquiltam BC, Canada.

I used an Android App called GPS Logger to plot my route. I then entered the data into Google Maps to output the map below. My walk lasted 01:02:02, covering 5.40 km at an average speed of 5.2 km/h.

You can visit my GPS Travel Log page to view an animated Google map at: A Walk Around Blue Mountain Park.

My First Photograph - 1974

This is one of the first photographs I took back in 1974, about 52 years ago, when I was in grade 8. I used a Canon FX 35mm film camera and B&W film, which I developed myself.

The print I am holding is a 12x18 canvas print mounted on wooden stretcher bars. I then applied 3 coats of Liquitex acrylic satin varnish.

Kerwan Avenue is the street I grew up on from the late 1960's to the 1980's in the city of Coquitlam, about 12 miles east of Vancouver BC, Canada. Location on Google maps:  Kerwan Avenue at Kerwan Place

My New Cap - len778.ca

I ordered 2 embroidered caps from Vistaprint Canada, with my len778.ca short URL web address and a camera logo. len778.ca redirects to my website at leonardwhistler.ca and is a short, easy-to-remember web address which is easy to enter into the browser address bar.

I chose len778.ca because len is my name, 778 is the telephone area code for Vancouver BC, Canada - where I live, and .ca is the top-level domain (TLD) for Canada.

ChatGPT Keychain Image

I just started using the free ChatGPT plan and uploaded the image on the left and applied the 3D Keychain Figurine Design filter - the finished image is below. The filter created a cartoonish figurine keychain on a wooden surface image. I am very impressed with the final results.

Daily Selfie

Last month, on January 15, 2026, I added a new webpage to my website - Daily Selfie. I hope to add a new selfie every day. I created a web application that makes it easy to upload a selfie with title, date, and location from my smartphone to my website in seconds. The location information is only visible as a tooltip during mouse-hover over the image.

You can visit the Daily Selfie page at: Daily Selfie.

Vancouver's Centennial (1886-1986) 100 Marker

This seven-foot-tall granite marker is located at the South end of the Granville Street Bridge at West 4th Avenue. It was installed in 1986 to commemorate Vancouver’s centennial year.

1986 was also the year Vancouver hosted Expo 86. Preparations for Expo 86 included building the first line of Vancouver's SkyTrain rapid transit system called The Expo Line.

Metal Log Ashtray

While I was in Grade 11 at Centennial Senior Secondary School in Coquitlam BC, Canada, I took Metal 11 in 1977. One of the projects was making a metal log ashtray, which, after 49 years, I still have - even though I don't smoke. The other projects included a hammer, a 4-piece fireplace poker set, and a 1-ton manual come-along winch with a steel cable.

The metal log ashtray could be described as a welded metal sculpture; the welds give the metal a tree trunk appearance. I enjoyed the 80-minute 5-month class, but I only achieved a low P (pass) grade.
